Dental Sealants and Non-surgical Gum Therapy
Save time and money in the long run by avoiding fillings, crowns or caps needed to repair decayed teeth. Take advantage of sealants and non surgical gum therapy that
Dr. Vaune Wenzinger
offers and minimize your chances of getting teeth decay.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are relatively inexpensive and are efficient means to prevent dental caries. These thin plastic coatings are painted on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Fluoride in toothpaste and in drinking water protects the smooth surfaces of teeth but back teeth need more protection. Sealants keep out germs and food by covering the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Unlike your front teeth, the chewing surfaces of back teeth are rough and uneven because they have small pits and grooves. Food and germs get trapped in the pits and grooves that make it hard to remove with brushing alone.
Did you know that germs in the mouth use the sugar in food to produce acids giving rise to a cavity in the tooth over time? Sealants act as barrier and prevent these acids from penetrating the tooth. If a small decay happens to be covered by a sealant, the decay won’t spread since it is shut off from its food and germ supply.
Non-Surgical Gum Therapy
You may brush your teeth, floss your teeth and use mouthwash to clean your teeth but it won’t effectively treat destructive bacterial infections under your gums. The treatment of choice is no longer surgery but
non-surgical gum therapy
. Take the first step to prevent periodontal disease or infection of your teeth and gums – avoid loosening teeth, tooth loss, heart disease, and Type II Diabetes. We meticously clean your teeth, gums and root surfaces with the help of anti-infective irrigants and hand and ultrasonic instruments. Not to worry about radiation, we use digital x-rays drastically reducing the amount of radiation to the patient and oral cancer screening.
